No Other Gods

Amoureox dans la palmeraie, claire de luneOne of the many problems with the post-modern church’s teachings is that they excuse putting things before God. Sometimes they even encourage it. They no longer teach truth to error. Are we faithful brides to our Lord or are we whores?

They teach that if good things happen to one then God is blessing, if bad things happen it is Satan’s fault. There is no responsibility for ones own condition.

That’s not exactly what the Word says.

25   Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.  26 Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,  27 and give no opportunity to the devil.  28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need.  29 Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.  30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice,  32 and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Eph. 4:25-32

Holding to false teachings, being angry, not working for what our grandparents called an honest living. All these things grieve the Spirit and give opportunity to the devil.

If Satan has an opportunity he will surely take it. If we entertain false teachings, false prophecy, or false beliefs, then we leave ourselves open to attack.

“. . . and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:32

All lies come from Satan. So if your belief is in falsehoods you are following Satan and not following God. Especially if those lies are of a religious nature. In a conversation Messiah had with the Pharisees, he told these teachers of the Bible that they were not teaching truth.

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

The devil has not changed his stripes. He works the same way he did back then. So how is our faith? Is it Biblical? Or is it the Traditions of men?

There are Ten Commandments they were not suggestions. They are the “Perfect Will of God.”

It all comes down to That very first commandment.

1   And God spoke all these words, saying,  2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3   “You shall have no other gods before me. Ex. 20:1-3

What are we putting before God?

The Congregation is Firstborn

Here’s a surprise for some. All believers are considered first-borns.

22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,  23 and to the assembly of the first-born who are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,  24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks more graciously than the blood of Abel. Heb. 12:22-24

We now all have the special blessings and therefore the responsibilities of a firstborn.

The first responsibility is to take care of our mother.

But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. Gal. 4:26

The other responsibility of the firstborn is to take care of the rest of the family.

And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 1John 3:23

So our first thought and action of each morning is to seek the Kingdom of God and to build it up.

Even the Messiah understood that the Father’s will come first.

“I can do nothing on my own authority; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.” John 5:30

Messiah as Firstborn

Our Messiah is the firstborn of all creation, as well as the firstborn of the dead, as well as being the firstborn of Mary and Joseph.

Can an unclean things bring forth a unclean thing? Once there was this tomb outside of Jerusalem that did.

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren. Rom. 8:29

Aside from being the great “predestination” verse we are also informed the Messiah is the firstborn of the brethren. He is the pre-eminent leader of His Congregation. The firstborn were to be dedicated to God, they were the head of the family and as such were responsible for the others welfare. No one can or should try to usurp His firstborn status. He is our leader. We have no king but Messiah.

He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; Col. 1:15

This is not to mean as some cult teach that Messiah is a creation. The Greek is actually prototokos pases ktiseos which is, born before all the creation. The word, with only the change of the accent, prototokos, signifies actively the first begetter or producer of all things. The firstborn here is used in the sense of His pre-eminence.

He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be pre-eminent. Col. 1:18

He is the head of the Congregation as ancient kings were heads of the kingdoms. He is the head of the government with the right to make and enforce laws. The Greek is arche, prototokos ek o nekros, beginning, ruler, principle, born or the dead.

Who are the First Born?

In our culture we no longer honor firstborns the way they did in agrarian societies. In the culture of the Bible the firstborn was given a double portion of the inheritance. Part of his double portion was that all the father’s land usually came to the firstborn undivided. With this extra wealth came extra responsibilities, for the firstborn was responsible for his widowed mother and any unwed sisters. This is why we see at the cross Messiah handing the responsibility for His mother’s care to John. It was probably not because he felt his brothers were unworthy but rather His knowledge that John would live longer.

There are several passages concerning firstborns in the Bible. Over the next few weeks we will look at all of them. There are the firstborn of Egypt, the first born of Israel, the Levite who become the firstborn, the curse on the firstborn of any who would rebuild Jericho, our Messiah is the firstborn of the dead, and last of all the congregation is the assembly of firstborn.

First and Foremost the Firstborn is one who must be Redeemed

Egypt’s Firstborn a type of Israel’s Firstborns

For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man and the first-born of cattle. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all the males that first open the womb; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem.’ Ex. 13:15

Because the Lord had taken the firstborn of Egypt He now requires the service of the firstborn of Israel. These firstborn were to be consecrated to the Lord as priests. However things are changed after the tabernacle is built. In Numbers 3-4 the Levites and their cattle replace all the firstborns of the other tribes, and those of the other tribes are redeemed and no longer must serve the Lord and his temple.

And you shall take the Levites for me — I am the LORD — instead of all the first-born among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the people of Israel.” Num. 3:41

Every time a newborn came into a family this law is reemphasized as five shekels were to be paid to the high priest.

FYI: A shekel is not a coin but rather a unit of measure. Coins don’t come into existence until just prior to Alexander the Great. Five ancient shekels amount to just about 100 grams of pure silver. This fluctuates to modern currencies see Silver Gram Price Calculator
Joseph – Rachel’s firstborn son, was sold by his brothers for twenty silver pieces, the equivalent of five shekels. This established that the standard “price” for a (firstborn) human is five shekels, which are given to the priest to redeem the child.

The changing of the law is troublesome because God never changes.

But thou art the same, and thy years will never end.” Heb. 1:12b

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever. Heb. 13:8

What must be remembered is that He is not changing the need for redemption but rather who will provide the required sacrifice. The change in the law of the redemption of the firstborn is a type for the change in the law of the insufficient sacrifice of the blood of goats and bulls to the one sufficient sacrifice of His own Son.

. . . he entered once for all into the Holy Place, taking not the blood of goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. Heb. 9:12

For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. Heb. 10:4

Renew or Repair your Mind

The Greek word for renew is anakainosis, it means to make new, to renew, to repair so that it is superior.Amerling, Friedrich Von (1803-1887) -The Oriental

True ladies of the Harem renew their minds. It is our work.

In the letter to the Gentile churches believers are called on to renew their minds, spirits, and knowledge.

Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Rom. 12:2

. . . he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5

. . . and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Col. 3:10

. . . and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, Eph. 4:23

The Hebrew equivalent in the Old Testament is chadash, and is most often used in the cleansing of the temple. The temple was constantly being corrupted by pagan idols and practices. Just as our temples of the Holy Spirit are continually subject to the temptation of these same pagan concepts.

Then Samuel said to the people,  “Come, let us go to Gilgal and there renew the kingdom.” 1Sam. 11:14

When Asa heard these words, the prophecy of Azariah the son of Oded, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim, and he repaired the altar of the LORD that was in front of the vestibule of the house of the LORD. 2Chr. 15:8

After this Joash decided to restore the house of the LORD. 2Chr. 24:4

It is the Spirit of God that is the agent of renewal.

. . . thou dost renew thy witnesses against me, and increase thy vexation toward me; thou dost bring fresh hosts against me. Job 10:17

When thou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created; and thou renewest the face of the ground. Psa. 104:30

Restore us to thyself, O LORD, that we may be restored! Renew our days as of old! Lam. 5:21

We must return to learning Messiah and the only way to do that is to read the Bible.

17   Now this I affirm and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds;  18 they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart;  19 they have become callous and have given themselves up to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of uncleanness.  20 You did not so learn Christ! —  21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus.  22 Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,  23 and be renewed in the spirit of your minds,  24 and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Eph. 4:17-24

Ezek. 16: 30-34 A Foundlings Tail (part 5)

BOUKERCHE, Miloud-Le couple d'amoureux30   “How lovesick is your heart, says the Lord GOD, seeing you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen harlot;  31 building your vaulted chamber at the head of every street, and making your lofty place in every square. Yet you were not like a harlot, because you scorned hire.  32 Adulterous wife, who receives strangers instead of her husband!  33 Men give gifts to all harlots; but you gave your gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from every side for your harlotries.  34 So you were different from other women in your harlotries: none solicited you to play the harlot; and you gave hire, while no hire was given to you; therefore you were different. Ezek. 16:30-34

God’s people are as an Adulterous wife. Unfaithful to the Covenant that we have agreed to. It would be one thing if all these pagan gods did something for us. But they are all false gods and only further impoverish us morally, spiritually and/or financially.  Santa Clause may make a kid feel richer, but the truth is his parents are poorer for it. The devastation that earth worship has brought us is almost beyond comprehension. We don’t want drill for our own oil, so we are dependent on others even enemies for our fuel. We believe that humans are depleting the earth, so we depopulate to dangerous levels. Science isn‘t science anymore, it is myth and a  religion, rather than observable facts and repeatable results. We are in love with every lie, with every false god, and with every false prophet. We are returning to an age of superstitions and myths, rather than the one of truth that our one true God meant for us to have. How about you? Do you love the truth, or can you put up with that which is not true, if it is pleasant? Do you pant after that which is true?  Do you desire truth to be in your head, in your heart, on your tongue, and in your life? Or are you content with what is false? If you love falsehood, your mind is full of disease; and unless you are healed of the plague, you can never enter heaven. You must be transformed and made true, and only the Spirit of truth can effect the mighty change.

Our religious leaders are no longer men of the word of truth, they neither read Greek nor Hebrew. The most basic thing that any spiritual leader should know, is how to read the Bible, not a translation. Honestly, would you go to a Doctor who could not even name the bones of the human body? The languages of the Bible are the basic tools of the preacher’s trade. Without a sound foundation of the true Word of God these spiritual leaders often degrade into sorcery and witchcraft, teaching that they are somehow spiritually superior, and deserving of ten percent of our incomes. They use the Bible as a gypsy would use a crystal ball. They only want to keep you coming back for more, while never actually bringing you to a full knowledge of your True Beloved. They not only condone your sinfulness, they teach you more lies. These humbugs only want your money. Why are you sitting under the teachings of a man who knows no more than you? Why sit under one of these charlatans buying all the hooey they dish out? Maybe you can’t leave because you’ve always there, you mother goes there, it is your tradition, whatever your excuse, it is time to pick up your Bible and study, your eternal soul is at stake. Leave the false lovers.

The Creator of the Universe has much to tell you, much to teach you. Where do you think Einstein and Newton learned what they did? They were both students of the creator. Most of the truly great men of real science, are. Not the make believe stuff they spread now. But the real demonstrable science that built our great culture and lifestyle.

Quit selling your soul to these false gods. The One True God, and His love for you, is far deeper than any false god. We have forgotten who it is that told us to live, who watched us grow, and took us into His arms and bed of love. The pagans tell you love is everywhere, you can sleep with anyone. The preachers tell you off for your lustful nature. But God meant for all your desires to be filled. They are only lustful in the wrong context.

This last church age is lukewarm and has shut the doors on Messiah. They do not wish Him to even enter. They do not wish to eat with Him. We must conquer the paganism of the churches and open our own door and have our own relationship.

14   “And to the angel of the church in La-odicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation.

15   “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot!  16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.  17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing; not knowing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.  18 Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may be rich, and white garments to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nakedness from being seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.  19 Those whom I love, I reprove and chasten; so be zealous and repent.  20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.  21 He who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.  22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’” Rev. 3:14-22

This is the way back. Sell off all your pagan ideas, beliefs, and fable’s. Only in reading our Bibles, can we make everyone prove everything to us. Only in self discipline and learning can we by the gold, and white garments we need. Salvation maybe free, but open eyes and white garments must be purchased.

The Mohar

Engagement_RingsThe Mohar is the bridal present given at the time of betrothal in ancient Jewish customs. Now days, the Jews like the rest of those in Western Civilization give a ring, usually with a stone, usually a diamond. However in ancient times it could be any costly jewelry, often mounted coins.Corte A - Femme Turque

The haggling between families during the marriage arrangements could go one for weeks even months before the final price of the troth was arrived at. Once all is settle the Mohar is given as a promise that the rest will be delivered. Once the woman excepts the mohar the betrothal is set and the only way out is divorce. [Gen 34:12; I Sam 18:25]

We are the bride of Messiah and our Mohar came at Pentecost/Shavout. Rabbinical tradition says that God gave the Torah to Israel on the very first Pentecost, celebrated in the wilderness [Ex 19-24]. And again He gave the Holy Spirit on  the same holy day of Pentecost/Shavout. Shofar-new_ezr[Acts 2] These are our mohar, the Word and the Spirit. We have accepted them so now we wait for the wedding day. Straining to here the trumpet call. For a Jewish bride is called to the wedding tent i.e. chupah with the sound of a shofar i.e. trumpet.
