Bibliography

Essential books for personal study.

If you do not have access to a computer and the internet, you will need

Baker’s Bible Atlas

and a Bible Dictionary

A Note about using Wikipedia, at the writing of this Wikipedia is useless for things that have occurred in the last 200 years or so.  These have been corrupted by those that are politically correct.  But the ancient information seems so far to be relatively untouched by these rewriters of history.

The Harper Study Bible, which is an RSV.  It has the most useful unbiased thorough notes I have found.  It got me through Survey of the New Testament without ever having to open the assigned text book, and the course was brutal in the amount of information one had to acquire.

The RSV is useful because whenever it deviates from the Greek or Hebrew one can look up why in the INTERNATIONAL CRITICAL COMMENTARY.  There is no other translation where you can look up the why.

Christian Classic Ethereal Library – A free internet resource for many classic Christian books.  I alway check them out first.

Theology

ARCHER, GLEASON L. JR. – A Survey of Old Testament Introduction.  Moody Press 1975

Henry, Matthew – Commentary on the Whole Bible, Originally written in 1706

I don’t know of any Systematic Theology that is not corrupted by the dispensationalist.

Same goes for any Survey of the New Testament.

Hermeneutics

INTERNATIONAL CRITICAL COMMENTARY

It is essential that anyone using these books first read the first 13 chapters of Gleason Archer’s Survey of the Old Testament.

Language

Accordance Bible Software

Original Languages – will give one all the Greek and Hebrew they might want or need, the more expensive bundles are full of books and reference guilds that are for the most free on the internet.  However their Hebrew Dictionary has been redacted, so one might want to invest in a hard bound copy of the Brown Driver and Briggs Lexicon, Hendrickson Publishers, version is also coded with Strong’s Concordance numbers. Which makes it very essay for those with no Hebrew skills at all.  Or for conversing with someone who has no Hebrew skills, as you can use the number so there is no misunderstanding as to what word is being discussed.  Another useful tool is the, Index to Brown Driver and Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, Compiled by Bruce Einspahr.
