The Harem is to be Seeking God’s Kingdom
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well. Matt. 6:33
The Post Modern Church seems to be obsessed with the “all these things” part of this verse. They no longer speak of it in context. They are wholly given over to covetousness and greed. With no responsibility to SEEK. An authentic relationship with our King begins with seeking His Kingdom.
The context of this verse is the three chapters of Matthew 5 -7 also known as The Sermon on the Mount. This is where the Beatitudes are. This is where the new rules of the Kingdom are laid out. This is where we are told how to seek the Kingdom. Moving the commandments from not just what we do but also what we think. It is Messiah’s announcement that the time of the physical temple animal scarifies are to be replaced with individual responsibility and self sacrifice towards our fellow man and our God.
You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matt. 5:48
That’s a tall order. Followed by the Lord’s prayer,
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Matt. 6:10
The Kingdom is not about what we want. It is about how we serve our King. As Solomon praised the Shulamite for overseeing the things of his earthly kingdom. So we should be overseeing the Kingdom of our Lord.
Thy neck is as a tower of ivory;
thine eyes as the pools in Heshbon,
by the gate of Bath-rabbim;
thy nose is like the tower of Lebanon
which looketh toward Damascus. Song 7:5
One must remember that Solomon’s great wealth and power came from trade. At the time both Egypt and Assyria were in anarchy making little Israel the only safe way to get from Asia to the Mediterranean.
The Song of Songs is filled with Hebrew euphemisms and idioms. All these places are places where one can watch what is going on. Towers are obvious to even English readers. The pools in Heshbon were at the gate a great place to watch the merchants comings and goings. Bath-rabbim is a Hebrew idiom for many people doing business (literally it isdaughter of many). And from the tower of Lebanon i.e. Mt Hermon one can see all the major trade routes, the valleys of Jezreel and Beqaa and all the way to Damascus. As the Shulamite was about keeping Solomon’s kingdom we are to be chiefly concerned with Messiah’s Kingdom. Solomon traded in all the most precious goods of the world. Messiah trades in souls. NOT THINGS!
For a truly authentic relationship sit down and read through that whole sermon. It is a tall order. But it is how we must begin our seeking.
As the old hymn says: And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.

The Song of Songs 
I believe the all these things spoken here have to be the 3 things mentioned in the preceding verses. they are food, drink and clothing. No roof over one’s head is promised from these verses. Also who has ever sought first HIS kingdom and HIS righteousness? None but HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON! and what did he have… Food, Drink and Clothing!
